Mandela Day 2019

For our 67 minutes for Mandela, Two Mountains staff members proceeded in doing different activities around all areas of operation and beyond. All our Branches gave a helping hand to the underprivileged and sort to make a difference in the communities they operate in. With a rich history of charitable giving Two Mountains was able to reach a wider network of disadvantaged individuals with a bigger National footprint. This year Two Mountains staff chose charities and activities where they saw a disproportion or disadvantage to the community and made differences in honour of the late statesman Nelson Mandela.

Our Mthatha staff members took to the streets and cleaned up parts of the town. The area of Mthatha is urban with hawkers trying to make ends meet so the staff thought it would be ideal to clean up the area for better operating conditions. This was a similar case in Mkhuhlu where staff members took to the streets of Nelspruit for a cleaning drive before heading to a local orphanage to spend the day. The Jane Furse office visited the Atlegang Droping Centre in Madibong assisting the hardworking staff members care for the many children in the home. All Branches and Offices gave donations according to the needs of the identified project and their personal capacity. “We played games with the children and did not lose but let them win” said a Two Mountains employee who spent the day with a very excited group of talented children that also received a foosball table. Acornhoek branch similarly spent time at the Ekurhuleni Centre for Orphans and vulnerable children leaving a generous donation of food packages that the center needed to help the children in their care.

The recently opened Louis Trichardt branch went into their community to assist with food items and an equipment donation to the Mthundinny project for the disabled. The staff members recognized the needs of the project through a letter received from the program director requesting assistance from the organization. The project established in the Louis Trichardt community assists disabled learners and parents offering education and skills development. The staff spent time at the center interacting with the children, parents and staff. Like our Tzaneen and Rissik offices, the staffers will be visiting the charity regularly to ensure that the center receives all the help that they are able to give. Our Germiston Branch returned to the Socia Care De Deur old age home this year to spend time with our elders and ensuring that the center has all it needs for the coming year.

Two Mountains in partnership with Thobela FM was able to donate a Fridge and groceries to the Setotolwane School for the deaf and blind. “The partnership with Thobela is because we are both for the community and believe in ploughing back” said the HOD of Financial Services Ms. M. Digabane. She was very happy with the efforts of all the staff in leading the organization with their charitable activity. Two Mountains also donated wheelchairs to children at the Grace and Hope school, showed appreciation by gifting management of the Senzokuhle Home Based Care and assisted to rebuild the house of a blind mother and a mentally ill son with the Ronaldsey Home based care team.

“There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time & energy to help others without expecting anything in return.” Nelson Mandela.
